Dear readers, colleagues, partners and friends,
Through the Global Editor Networks Association, we were offered the opportunity to publish select illustrations from today¹s iconic issue of Charlie Hebdo. Very few news publishers have been given this opportunity worldwide, and even fewer said yes
It is the first time we’ve made such a decision, and we are honored to be able to do so. It is an opportunity to prove our professionalism, our ethos and our pragmatic will to contribute to a better world.
We believe it is the essence of our mission: To deliver information with purpose for engaged citizenship. In only 5 days the Charlie Hebdo caricatures have become symbols of freedom, democracy and citizenship, and those are symbols worth fighting for.
Above all, it is the essence of Article 19 of the Declaration of Human Rights “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.”
This is what we stand for. This why we are publishing the illustrations in Europe and in USA.
As part of my duty, I also want to give to you different respectful perspectives on the subject :
Opinion from Frederic Filloux, former journalist at Libération, Managing Director at Les Echos
Thanks for your support, your trust, your contribution, and let¹s continue the conversation.
Best Regards,
Gilles Raymond – CEO & Founder of News Republic
